In a world where uncertainty and unexpected challenges arise daily—nowadays even hourly—creating a personal sanctuary is not just beneficial but essential. Whether it's starting a new yoga class, nurturing a garden, or rediscovering that musical instrument you set aside years ago, finding a creative outlet is now vital.
You don't need to be a professional artist to benefit from creativity; in today's world, it's a necessity.
At Pink Couch Creative, we've established our own sanctuary through our new company zine series, Couchside Rewind. This project serves as our vibrant refuge—a space where creativity knows no bounds. Amidst the chaos of the outside world, we find joy immersing ourselves in design and color for a few hours. The little joys are still out there—we may just need to look a bit harder these days.
The Power of Creating
While it can feel intimidating or even frustrating at times, engaging in creative activities offers profound mental health benefits. Practices like junk journaling, for example, are well-known for reducing stress, promoting mindfulness, and cultivating gratitude by transforming everyday items into meaningful mementos. Creation becomes a meditative process, giving individuals a safe space to express emotions and experiences that might be hard to put into words. So, why do we often push these healing practices aside? Why do we dive into more work, stress, and activities that drain us instead? Journaling is just one example, but there are many creative outlets that offer similar mental health benefits. What creative endeavors have brought you pure joy, or perhaps a sense of pride and amazement for stepping outside your comfort zone?
Find a Creative Sandbox
What’s your creative playground going to be? Find a medium, niche, or genre that sparks your curiosity, and decide how you want to dive in. We suggest starting with something at least a little familiar—it’s less overwhelming when you have a foundation to build on.
Maybe you played piano as a kid. You still remember where middle C is, and you can read a few notes. Perfect. Now you can focus on brushing up your skills, rediscovering the joy in it, and maybe even unlocking some long-lost memories along the way.
Couchside Rewind is our creative sandbox, rooted in the timeless charm of print, a definite passion of ours. This familiar format jumpstarts our imagination, letting us play with layouts, colors, and formats without having to learn an entirely new craft from scratch.
Working within this medium sharpens our current skills in layout design, illustration, typography, and color theory. It’s a space where we experiment boldly, blending innovation with personal growth. Each page brings fun challenges that spark critical thinking and push creative boundaries. With a strong grasp of design principles, we can break the rules intentionally—adding splashes of fun, color, and personality to our work.
That said, we salute those ready to leap into something brand new! Go forth, explore, and create without fear. The world—and you—will be better for it.
We All Need Art & Creativity
As the world faces increasing challenges, dedicating time to creative endeavors like these not only enrich personal well-being but also enhance professional development and maybe even brand identity, if you’re a company like us. It's a way to find color and happiness amidst the darkness, offering a sense of purpose and fulfillment. By embracing creativity, we can navigate turbulent times with resilience and grace, transforming our personal sanctuaries into beacons of hope and inspiration.
At Pink Couch Creative, Couchside Rewind is more than a company zine; it's our testament to the transformative power of creativity. We encourage you to take some time for self-reflection and discover your own creative outlets to illuminate your path and enrich your life. And we'd like to think it's a pretty safe assumption that creatives usually end up saving the world, so put your frustration into something that's filled with love and color—the world needs it, and you, now more than ever.
We're excited to be working on our first issue of Couchside Rewind here at Pink Couch Creative. Keep an eye out as we'll share along the way. We do hope to print several of these issues in the future and find ways to share, maybe even, dare we say...digitally.
This issue is obviously going to be about couches. How can you celebrate a couch? There are plenty of ways. Most of us do treat them as the centerpiece of our rooms, don't we? And as you can gauge from the title, there will be quite a nostalgic flair within each issue, something that brings us a whole heap of joy!
xo,
Pink Couch
